Arturo Vega, the Creator of the Ramones Logo, R.I.P

Many have heard but Arturo Vega, who was often referred to as the 5th Ramone passed away on Saturday. The logo is iconic and was definitely a large contributor to the Ramone’s success. A few interesting facts:

1. The logo first appeared on the band’s debut album in 1976

2. According to the New York Times, Vega designed the “presidential seal” so that the right eagle talons held a baseball bat because Johnny Ramone love baseball. The left talons cling to an apple tree branch instead of an olive branch because “the Ramones were as American as apple pie”

3. The t-shirts emblazoned with the iconic logo was and is their most consistent source of income
